Requirements:

  • Live or work in Franklin Lakes or the adjoining communities
Certified Emergency Medical in the State of NJ must complete a 250 hour course that provides hybrid online and in-person learning. They must also complete 10 hours of clinical observation in an Emergency Room and pass the national registry test. EMTs must also have a current CPR certification.

NJ EMT Basic sessions are offered in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Course availability, location, start date, and schedule vary. Contact us at recruitment@flvac.org for more information on upcoming classes.

FLVAC covers the cost of EMT Basic through multiple reimbursement opportunities. We also provide EMT continuing education credits at no cost to our members.
Members are expected to attend meetings and drills (2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month) and be On Duty for 20 hours a month. The riding requirement can be completed in 4 hour increments (6am-10am, 10am-2pm, 2pm-6pm, etc.).

Membership Options

Student Member: All new members accepted without EMT certification who are working toward their EMT certification are designated as student members.

Probationary Member: All new members with EMT certifications are probationary members. Probationary members will ascend to Junior (Under 18) or Senior status when they have satisfied the prerequisites and are voted in by members of the corps. Senior members must have experience on a wide variety of medical emergencies, attend meetings and drills, and be in good standing with the corps.

Auxiliary Member: May serve on committees and performs technical or administrative duties to support the corps.
